Education in Bracknell

Around one fifth of the state funded secondary schools serving Bracknell in Berkshire are currently oversubscribed in terms of maximum student capacity. Less than 80% of all secondary school aged youngsters educated in the area are granted a place at their state school of choice, and only 40% eventually progress on to attend University.

Maths is important

Human beings have an inborn mathematical ability. Even tiny babies appear to have a built-in awareness of numbers. And we learn maths in two ways, either visually or linguistically – a mode which is developed later in life. Einstein claimed his ideas came to him as images – and stated that words didn’t appear to play any part in his mechanism of thought. However you think you learn maths, it’s clear that maths has transformed the way we live today, from the whispering jet engine to the way we download music. Maths is a challenging, complex subject that encourages you to look at the things you take for granted in a new way. Unlike other subjects it stands alone from other subjects and forms the building block of many others. It’s also a subject of ‘doing’ rather than ‘knowing’ and practising maths helps to develop skills in logic, reasoning, problem-solving and self-discipline. All of which are incredibly useful in any number of rewarding careers.
