Why Maths Doctor

Education in Basildon

As a rather densely populated county, Essex is teaming with school-aged children vying for places at the regions more preferred schools. With 610 schools serving the county in total, towns like Basildon are still prone to over-subscription, particularly within the state funded school sector. Rates of overpopulation in wider Essex currently stand at 20% for state funded primary schools and 18% for state funded secondary schools.

Maths is important

Politicians seem to fall prey to the exact same question all the time. Labour schools minister, Stephen Byers, was asked in 1998 the answer to 7 x 8. He got the question wrong in front of TV cameras. This was almost repeated with the conservative Chancellor George Osbourne. He was asked the exact same question. Instead of getting it wrong he decided not to answer the question in front of his audience, a group of school children. 7 x 8 is one of the most common sums to answer wrong, although it is not the most common one. Individuals are more likely to get the sums 8 x 12 and 11 x 12 wrong. In practice, there are simple methods to knowing how to calculate the right answers to these sums. By taking a course you can learn these methods so you can confidently answer any sum which your child asks you.
