For most kids, maths is an unwelcome chore – something to be endured rather than enjoyed. Children of any age can encounter problems understanding concepts and tasks, and easily become discouraged when they keep getting low marks. Achieving a good standard of maths is highly important to their future academic and career success. Capturing their attention, dealing with problems and showing how they can get consistently good results requires the help of a Maths Doctor Tutor. Highly skilled, knowledgeable and professional, our tutors know how to help, inspire and enthuse even the most reluctant learner. We can identify the exact problems that a child is experiencing and provide a tutor that can deal with that situation. The tutor’s approach will match the child’s needs – some will respond better to a traditional teacher, others to an enthusiastic graduate. Our tutors provide help at all levels from KS1 to A level, including specialist help where necessary. Free taster sessions are available – just contact us for more information.

Education in Portsmouth

Of the 72 schools serving the Portsmouth area, 52 are state operated primary institutions, 10 are state secondary schools and just 4 are independent.

Year on year, the primary schools in Portsmouth are subject to some 109 primary appeals with regards to the number of places available to students in the area. Only 31% of children educated in the area eventually progress to degree level.

Portsmouth has some excellent centres for A level studies and there is strong competition for places. State, independent and further education colleges such as Portsmouth Grammar and Havant Sixth Form College are achieving outstanding results. At Portsmouth High School, 56% of all grades at A level were A/A; and 89% were A/B with many students taking mathematics as one of their subjects. With results like these, all its university candidates gained places at their first choice university. Havant Sixth Form College saw over 80% of their students going to their preferred choice university; having achieved a 98% pass rate at A level. The College scored an enviable 790 points in the Department of Education Achievement and Attainment A level table. As specialist Maths tutors in Portsmouth, we can offer any help that students need to gain the grades required to enter such centres of excellence. Once there, we can maintain their progress.
