Education in the West Midlands

Photograph of a canal in the West Midlands

A broad and largely metropolitan area of middle England, the West Midlands yields all of the statistical diversity you would imagine.

One prevalent issue with the area is the over subscription of students in state run schools. An average of 1,066 primary appeals and 1,699 secondary appeals are launched in Birmingham alone year on year, though the rates fluctuate for the rest of the county.

A bit of tuition may help to ensure you never have to make an appeal, especially in a tough subject such as maths.

Did you know?

In the 1920s and 1930s, Coventry-born RAF engineer Sir Frank Whittle (1907-96) developed the world's first turbojet engine.

Wolverhampton Grammar School, founded in 1512, is one of the oldest active schools in the UK. Old boys include Mervyn King, ex-Governor of the Bank of England.
