I qualified as a teacher in 1997 by completing a probationary year of teaching in a London School. I have taught for 17 years in the primary sector, all year groups. I have also privately tutored up to and including GCSE level.

Sandwell’s secondary schools have climbed the league tables in recent years, and the borough can boast several strong schools. Sandwell Academy is rated Outstanding by OFSTED, with 76% achieving grades A* to C in English and Maths GCSE, and the Q3 Academy has a Good rating with 68% achieving those all-important A* to C grades at Maths and English GCSE.

However, in the West Midlands in general, the percentage of children achieving five or more A* – C grades at GCSE is below the national average, 57.4% in 2012 compared with 58.4% nationwide.
