Maths is important

They say that travel broadens the mind, so what better way is there to see as many of the world's most exotic locations than by becoming an airline pilot? It's certainly one of the more exciting and involved occupations you can obtain, and not to say well paid, as each time you take to the skies you could potentially have the lives of over two hundred people in your hands. Naturally, they don't let just anybody behind the controls of a plane, so to become an airline pilot you will need an ATPL (Airline Transport Pilot Licence), and to be able to apply for an ATPL who will need to show a fair degree of academic ability, especially in mathematics. If you don't have at least a C grade at GCSE level in maths then your chances of being accepted on a ATPL course are virtually zero. To give yourself a great chance of progression, it is preferred that you have an 'A' level in maths as well.
